The Expendables 4 lands a 2023 release

The release of The Expendables 4 is less than a year away. Lionsgate announced today that the next installment of the Expendables franchise will hit theaters on September 22, 2023.

The Expendables 4 will feature the return of Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture, but they’ll be joined by some fresh blood in the form of Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Iko Uwais, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, and Andy Garcia. The film was directed by Scott Waugh from a screenplay by Spenser Cohen, with revisions by Max Adams and John Joseph Connolly. While production on The Expendables 4 was still ongoing, Stallone announced that he had completed work on the film and was “ready to pass the baton on to Jason [Statham] and his capable hands.

Plot details are largely being kept under wraps, but I’m sure we can expect plenty of high-octane, ’80s-style action. The new cast members are also rather interesting, particularly Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak) and Iko Uwais (The Raid). We do know that Uwais will be playing the villain of The Expendables 4, who is said to be a “former military officer turned arms dealer with his own private army.” Our own Chris Bumbray caught the first teaser for the Expendables sequel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas earlier this year. Although Sylvester Stallone was obviously featured, it seems that he’ll have a smaller role this time around, as Jason Statham and 50 Cent received top billing. With Stallone seemingly calling it quits, there have been rumours that his character will be killed off in the sequel. Quick snippets of action were seen, with the teaser stating that the past three installments had just been a “warmup” for this one.

Lionsgate will release The Expendables 4 on September 22, 2023.
