The Equalizer 3 will reunite Dakota Fanning with Man on Fire co-star Denzel Washington

It’s been nearly 20 years since Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning starred together in Tony Scott’s 2004 action thriller Man on Fire. In the film, Washington played a CIA operative named John W. Creasy, who goes on a revenge-driven rampage after his client, nine-year-old Lupita “Pita” Ramos (Fanning), is abducted in Mexico City. The duo shared great on-screen chemistry in the film, and now they’re getting the band back together for The Equalizer 3.

According to Deadline, Antoine Fuqua will direct The Equalizer 3, written by Richard Wenk. Escape Artists‘ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, and Washington are producing. No plot details for the new film have been released. The first movie in the Equalizer series grossed $194 million worldwide, paving the way for a sequel, which grossed $190 million across the globe. If all goes well, The Equalizer 3 will release on September 1, 2023.

Denzel recently played Macbeth in Jel Coen’s The Tragedy of Macbeth. The film also stars Francis McDormand, Alex Hassell, Brendan Gleeson, Bertie Carvel, Moses Ingram, Harry Melling, Corey Hawkins, Matt Helm, Kathryn Hunter, and Scott Subiono. The story focuses on a Scottish lord convinced by a trio of witches that he will become the next King of Scotland, and his ambitious wife supports him in his plans of seizing power.

As for Fanning, she recently starred as Susan Elizabeth Ford in The First Lady, which also stars Viola Davis, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Gillian Anderson. She’s also set to star as Marge Sherwood in Showtime’s Ripley series. In the series, a grifter named Ripley, living in New York during the 1960s, is hired by a wealthy man to begin a complex life of deceit, fraud, and murder.
