‘The Boys’: Full Episode 5 Breakdown

The Boys’ Soldier Boy is obviously inspired by Marvel’s ultimate do-gooder hero, Captain America. When Cap first reappeared in The Avengers #4 back in the 1960s, he’d only been trapped in suspended animation for about 20 years. Soldier Boy, on the other hand, has been MIA for 35 years — and so his culture shock is way more intense. Plus, he’s from the 1980s, so his values are very different from Captain America’s, who came of age fighting against the evil Nazis in World War II.

That’s just one of the many Easter eggs, hidden comics references, and little details you might have missed in Episode 5 of Season 3 of The Boys. Our latest Boys video breaks them all down, from all the character elements of Homelander that come straight out of the real-world dictator playbook, and how this episode fits into The Boys’ overall theme about how absolute power corrupts absolutely. See them all in our video below:
