Taron Egerton Believes The Next James Bond Has Already Been Cast

While no official announcement of who the next actor to play the iconic spy James Bond will be, actor Taron Egerton believes the role has already been decided and cast.

Speaking to Total Film magazine for its latest issue, Egerton — who has been linked to the role for a couple of months now — said that he actually had never been a part of any conversations, nor had he ever met with producer Barbara Broccoli. In fact, Egerton said, he thinks the role had already been figured out.

“Yeah. I mean, I think they’ve already got someone, and it’s not me,” said Egerton. “Yeah. I mean, I’ve never been a part of the conversations. I’ve never met the Broccolis. They’ve never enquired about me. I’ve just never been one of the guys that they’re looking at. I just don’t think I’m the right person for that. I think there’s much, much, much better candidates for that role than me. But, you know, I’d be a very willing audience member. They’re brilliant films.”

Currently, it’s unknown just who will play the coveted role of James Bond. However, do we know some things about what the next actor to step into the franchise will be like. Last year, producer Michael G. Wilson said that younger actors likely wouldn’t be considered.

Earlier this year, actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson was worried to be “too famous” for the role after he had a meeting with Broccoli about potentially playing the character, suggesting that the producers behind the 007 franchise are looking for a more unknown person to play the role.

Whoever does end up playing Bond will have big shoes to fill, but fans won’t likely see a movie for some time. Last year, Broccoli noted that a new film was “at least two years away,” due to the fact that a James Bond had to be cast, and a new film had to be written as well.

“There isn’t a script, and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond,” said Broccoli. “We’re reinventing who he is, and that takes time. I’d say that filming is at least two years away.”
