More details about the upcoming sequel to Sword Art Online The Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night have come forward, including a brief teaser.

The teaser debuted following a celebration of Sword Art Online‘s 10th anniversary and featured some new footage to tease the upcoming film. Alongside the trailer, it was also confirmed that the main staff members from the first film will return for the sequel, titled Sword Art Online The Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night. Director Ayako Kono will also return, as well as character designer and chief animation director Kento Toya.

Sword Art Online Progressive is an adaptation of the light novel series of the same name, serving as an expanded retelling of the Aincrad story arc of the original Sword Art Online. This film is produced by A1 Pictures and directed by Ayako Kono, who previously worked on series like Your Lie in AprilAfter the Rain, and Ace Attorney. The longtime actors of both characters return again, with Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Kirito and Haruka Tomatsu as Asuna.

Aria of a Starless Night premiered in Japan on Saturday, October 30, and made its way west subbed and dubbed on December 3, 2021, thanks to Funimation. The film also screened in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Latin America.
