Stranger Things is easily one of the most popular shows Netflix has ever developed. With the release of the final two episodes of Stranger Things season 4, Netflix has revealed that the latest season has surpassed the billion-hour mark in worldwide viewing.
Stranger Things season 4 has racked up 1.15 billion hours of viewing time over its first 28 days of release to become the first English-language series to reach this milestone. This places the season only behind Squid Game, the incredibly successful South Korean series that reached 1.65 billion hours. The fourth season of Stranger Things has already broken several records, including the biggest premiere weekend for a Netflix series, with 286.79 million hours viewed.
The official synopsis for Stranger Things season 4:
It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.
Stranger Things will come to an end with its fifth and final season, but the Duffer Brothers have already said that it will be shorter than the super-sized fourth season. There’s also a spin-off series in the works which will be very different from what fans are expecting. “I’ve read these rumors that there’s gonna be an Eleven spin-off, that there’s gonna be a Steve and Dustin spin-off or that it’s another number,” the Duffer Brothers said. “That’s not interesting to me because we’ve done all that. We’ve spent I don’t know how many hours exploring all of that. So it’s very different.” Both volumes of Stranger Things season 4 are streaming on Netflix.
