Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse: Part One, 2023, Marvel, Sony Pictures

One of the most highly anticipated releases of the year is shifting its release date. It has been announced that Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse: Part One is moving to 2023.

The sequel, originally dated October 7, 2022, will now swing to June 2, 2023. Per Deadline, the news comes ahead of Sony’s presentation at CinemaCon next week. There wasn’t a real reason given as to why the move was made but Sony did move their live-action/CGI musical comedy Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, originally dated November 18, 2022, into the October 7 slot. The film is based on the book series by Bernard Waber and stars Javier Bardem, Constance Wu, Winslow Fegley, and Scoot McNairy as the Primm family, and Brett Gelman as Mr. Grumps. Singer Shawn Mendes will be taking on the voice role of Lyle the crocodile.

Also revealed during the release date shuffle is that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part II, will come out on March 29, 2024, and the Spider-Man spinoff Madame Web from filmmaker S.J. Clarkson and starring Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney will open on July 7, 2023.

In non-Marvel release date news from Sony, the studio has also dated The Equalizer 3, once again starring Denzel Washington and directed by Antoine Fuqua, for September 1, 2023. I had no clue they were making a third one so this was certainly news to me. Are we going to get a movie/television crossover with Queen Latifah’s TV take of the same name? Stay Tuned!

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse: Part One will once again feature the vocal talent of Shameik Moore, Oscar Isaac, Jake Johnson, and Hailee Steinfeld, while a new addition to the voice cast is Insecure’s, Issa Rae. Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson are on board as directors while screenwriting duties belong to Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Dave Callaham.
