With Shazam! Fury of the Gods now playing in theaters, why not let JoBlo.com know what you thought of the DC sequel?

Billy Batson (Asher Angel) is back with the rest of his super-powered foster family for another adventure. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is now playing in theaters, but it hasn’t gotten off to the strongest start. The sequel earned just $3.4 million in Thursday night previews, much less than its predecessor’s $5.9 million. The film is projected to gross anywhere between $35-40 million domestically in its opening weekend

Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with having adult Super Hero alter-egos,” reads the official synopsis. “But when the Daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Billy—aka Shazam—and his family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world.Shazam! Fury of the Gods stars Zachary Levi/Asher Angel as Shazam/Billy Batson, as well as Jack Dylan Grazer/Adam Brody as Freddy Freeman, Ian Chen/Ross Butler as Eugene Choi, Faithe Herman/Meagan Good as Darla Dudley, Jovan Armand/D.J. Cotrona as Pedro Pena, and Grace Caroline Currey as Mary Bromfield. The sequel also features Helen Mirren as Hespera, Rachel Zegler as Anthena, Lucy Liu as Kalypso, and Djimon Hounsou as the Wizard. There are also a few cameos to keep an eye out for, some of which have already been spoiled by the marketing.

Reviews for the Shazam sequel haven’t been quite as kind as they were for the first installment, but our own JimmyO was a fan. “If you dug the first Shazam, you would appreciate a second round. Fury of the Gods is heartwarming in its portrayal of friendship and loyalty to family,” JimmyO wrote in his review. “The comedic elements work wonders inside the adventure… And yes, Levi is still a perfect fit for Shazam! And he is even more comfortable with the conflicted character. Yet Sandberg’s impressive balance makes this superhero sequel an exciting ensemble work. I loved all those involved. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is a sequel that betters the already impressive origin tale.” You can check out the rest of JimmyO’s review right here.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is currently sitting at 53% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is unfortunately well below the original’s 90%. Let us know what you thought of the movie in the comments below!
