Avengers: Endgame was one hell of a movie. Serving as the culmination of the Infinity Saga, Endgame brought the stories of several major Marvel Cinematic Universe characters to an end. It’s going to be tough to top, but Avengers: Secret Wars might just have what it takes.
During San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige laid out Phase 5 of the MCU, but he also revealed that Phase 6 will conclude with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Like Endgame before it, Secret Wars will serve as the epic conclusion of the MCU’s current story line, The Multiverse Saga. We’ve still got more than three years to go before that day, but Mark Ruffalo told Entertainment Tonight that Secret Wars could be even bigger than Endgame.
It’s going to be hard to top Endgame but, if I know Kevin [Feige] and I know Marvel, it’s going to be pretty amazing. It’ll be a big bang. We’ll go out with a big bang.
While we still don’t know who will helm Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel Studios have tasked Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) with helming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The big-bad of The Multiverse Saga will be Kang the Conqueror, as played by Jonathan Majors. The actor made his MCU debut in the first season of Loki as He Who Remains, but he will be playing the full-fledged Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Kevin Feige has explained that Kang is a totally different villain from Thanos, and I can’t wait to see him in action. “What I love is that he’s totally different from Thanos,” Feige said. “That he is completely different. That it’s not just how about there’s a bigger purple guy with a helmet? That’s not what Kang is. Kang is a very different type of villain and the fact that he is many, many different characters is what’s most exciting and most differentiates him.“
Do you think Avengers: Secret Wars will be able to top Avengers: Endgame?
