The Boys, season 3, herogasm, social media

The much talked about “Herogasm” episode of The Boys is finally here and despite coming from a show that has already shown it can shock and be completely irreverent, it looks like the popular Prime Video series is shocking its fans in a way it hasn’t since it made its debut.

The “Herogasm” episode has been hyped as “one of the more graphic hours of mainstream television that I think anyone will ever see”, by series creator Eric Kripke. Sometimes that hype can be hard to live up to but I just watched the episode early this morning and yes, my eyes, can’t unsee the things I just saw but kudos to the team for going all-in with it and for Prime Video for letting this episode be what it is. Most importantly, despite the shock value and spectacle of the episode, it features some great character arcs and it truly moves the story forward. The Boys’ biggest strength is that it can shock and awe while staying 100% dedicated to giving its characters more depth. The social media reactions also reflect that. Fans are acknowledging not only is this the best episode of the season but probably the best of the series so far because it blends so much of what The Boys does best.

Kripke let it be known that they would be adapting one of the comics’ most controversial arcs which, in the source material, depicts an annual party held for Supes that allows them to gather and throw a super-powered orgy under the guise of a world-ending threat. The episode does change some things from the story by having two members of Payback, the TNT Twins, holding the event at their home. The intention is for Hughie (Jack Quaid) and Butcher (Karl Urban) to head there with Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) so he can get revenge on his former teammates but things most definitely take a turn. And by turn I mean TURN! In the midst of all of this is the first confrontation between Soldier Boy and Homelander (Antony Starr) which plays against the backdrop of this Supes-fueled orgy. What are the fans thinking of the episode? You can check out some of the social media reactions below!
