Four years ago, it was reported that Roy Lee’s production company Vertigo Entertainment and NBA star LeBron James’ production company SpringHill Entertainment were teaming up to produce a new entry in the Friday the 13th franchise. Earlier this month, Lee told our friends at Bloody Disgusting that he would love to talk about his involvement with Friday the 13th and “You may be hearing something by year’s end… on that front.” Now some eagle-eyed fans like YouTuber CRAVEN Something Scary have noticed that original Friday the 13th director/producer Sean S. Cunningham’s page on the Cameo website says we’re going to be getting a new Friday the 13th movie in 2023!

Here’s exactly what Cunningham’s Cameo page says:

Sean S. Cunningham directed and produced the seminal horror film Friday the 13th, creating the iconic villain Jason Voorhees. The movie has spawned 12 installments with a 13th scheduled for next year.

The lawsuit between Cunningham and Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller, the issue that has been keeping the franchise bogged down for several years, was officially resolved a while back, although not in the way Cunningham was hoping for. The courts chose to give Miller the copyright to the original Friday the 13th within the United States, meaning Cunningham and Miller would have to come to some sort of agreement with each other before a new movie could go into production (without one or the other threatening to file another lawsuit).

Three months ago, Cunningham said that both sides of the argument are “really dug into foxholes. They’re not going to throw any grenades, but I don’t think anyone is going to call for peace talks.” But with Lee’s quote and Cunningham’s Cameo page now giving hope, it looks like Cunningham and Miller might have finally found peace with each other.

Thirteen years have passed since the last Friday the 13th movie, so I really hope a new one is finally moving forward. We’ll keep you updated whenever further information is revealed.

Fans are already pointing out that there’s a Friday the 13th in October next year, which would seem like the perfect time to release the new movie… if not for the fact that David Gordon Green and Blumhouse’s revival of The Exorcist has already claimed that date.
