According to Deadline, Emmy winner Sarah Silverman has officially signed on to star opposite Bradley Cooper in Netflix’s forthcoming Leonard Bernstein biographical drama Maestro, which is currently in production. The Wreck-It Ralph star is set to portray the role of Bernstein’s sister.

Silverman has already won two Emmy Awards, both for her work in comedy writing. Her notable film credits include School of Rock, Funny People, I Smile Back, Battle of the Sexes, and most recently, Marry Me.

Maestro will span over 30 years in telling the beautifully complex story of the marriage between Bernstein and his wife, Felicia Montealegre. Joining Cooper are Carey Mulligan as Felicia Montealegre, Matt Bomer, and Maya Hawke.

Cooper’s main focus on the project has always been the “charged and complex relationship” between Bernstein and Montealegre. The star and filmmaker have reportedly been working closely with Bernstein’s children — Jamie, Alexander, and Nina — over the past couple of years.

Maestro is directed by Cooper from a screenplay he co-wrote with Josh Singer. Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Cooper, and his Joint Effort producing partner Todd Phillips (Joker), Kristie Macosko Krieger, Oscar-nominated producer Emma Tillinger Koskoff (The Irishman, Joker), Fred Berner, and Amy Durning are serving as producers.

Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment is still attached to the project, which was initially set up at Paramount Pictures. The streamer will be giving the film a significant theatrical release before it moves exclusively to Netflix.
