Deadpool 3, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman

Fans were shocked, in the best way, when Ryan Reynolds announced last week that Hugh Jackman would be returning to play Wolverine one more time in Deadpool 3. As Jackman had announced that he would be hanging up the claws after Logan, I don’t think many expected him to return… but thankfully Ryan Reynolds seems to be mighty persuasive.

With Hugh Jackman back in training for the role, Ryan Reynolds spoke with Forbes about how excited he is to finally get Wolverine and Deadpool back together for Deadpool 3.

I couldn’t be more excited. I mean, especially to do it this way. Ultimately, I get to work with some of my closest friends in the world and that doesn’t happen every day working in this business. I’m thrilled and I’ve been sitting on those couple of teasers for a few weeks now. It’s one of those moments where you’re hitting send or a tweet or a post – your hand is shaking when you’re messing with the zeitgeist in a way like that.

Ryan Reynolds continued, “It’s been amazing. I feel the same way that the fans do, though. I feel as excited that this character is coming back for another ride, particularly in this context. I think it’s something that people have wanted for a long time, to get this pairing up on the big screen, and that’s what we aim to do.” It’s still early days on the project, so it’s too soon to guess what sort of adventures Deadpool and Wolverine will get up to, but the movie could be two hours of the pair trading quips while sitting on a couch and we’d probably eat it up.

Deadpool 3 will be directed by Shawn Levy from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. While speaking with our own Alex Maidy earlier this year, Rhett Reese teased that “The MCU is an amazing sandbox to play in. We’ll throw lots of cliches as well because we’re giving it 110% man or taking it one day at a time. It’s the Bull Durham thing. Like we’re taking it one day at a time. We can’t divulge details but suffice it to say that when Ryan and Paul and I are on Zoom together, we are cackling. So, it’s pretty fun.Deadpool 3 will hit theaters on September 6, 2024.
