Russo Brothers movie starring Millie Bobby Brown lands at Netflix

The release of The Gray Man is still a couple of weeks away, but it would seem that the Russo Brothers will be sticking with Netflix for their next project. Deadline has reported that the streaming service has scooped up The Electric State, a sci-fi drama set to star Millie Bobby Brown.

The Electric State was first announced in 2020. At the time, it was said that the project was being set up at Universal. A deal wasn’t able to be made, but Netflix began circling the project early this year and finally closed a deal. Based on the illustrated novel by Simon Stålenhag, The Electric State is “set in a retro-futuristic past, where an orphaned teenager (Brown) traverses the American West with a sweet but mysterious robot and an eccentric drifter in search of her younger brother.” Deadline confirmed rumours that Chris Pratt was in talks to co-star in The Electric State alongside Brown but says that a deal hasn’t been reached yet. Joe and Anthony Russo will direct from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Production is expected to kick off this fall, and sources say that the budget will exceed that of The Gray Man, which was said to cost $200 million.

The next Netflix project from the Russo Brothers will be The Gray Man, an action-thriller starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas. “The Gray Man is CIA operative Court Gentry (Gosling), aka, Sierra Six,” reads the official synopsis. “Plucked from a federal penitentiary and recruited by his handler, Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton), Gentry was once a highly-skilled, Agency-sanctioned merchant of death. But now the tables have turned and Six is the target, hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Evans), a former cohort at the CIA, who will stop at nothing to take him out. Agent Dani Miranda (Armas) has his back. He’ll need it.The Gray Man will hit select theaters on July 15th, followed by a Netflix release on July 22nd. As for Millie Bobby Brown, the second volume of the fourth season of Stranger Things will debut on Netflix this Friday.
