Rob Lowe, son, Unstable, Netflix

Rob Lowe will be teaming up with his son, John Owen Lowe, for a new Netflix comedy series from Santa Clarita Diet creator Victor Fresco.

Inspired by the social media relationship between Rob Lowe and his son, Unstable will be set in a cutting-edge biotech research company and follow an introverted, socially-challenged son who goes to work for his very successful, wildly eccentric father in order to save him from disaster. Naturally, John Owen Lowe will play the son in Unstable while Rob Lowe will play the father. The Lowes also co-created the series with Victor Fresco and all three will executive produce the project. “We are very excited to be working with Victor, Rob and John Owen,” said Tracey Pakosta, Netflix’s head of comedy. “The three of them – and their wildly funny, smart sensibilities – are a perfect fit for our growing slate of scripted comedies.

Rob Lowe currently stars in 9-1-1: Lone Star as Captain Owen Strand and his son actually works on the series as well as a writer, having penned multiple episodes. John Owen Lowe has starred alongside his father in episodes of The Grinder as well as the Netflix film Holiday in the Wild. Victor Fresco’s Santa Clarita Diet remains a favourite of time and I still mourn its cancellation. The series starred Timothy Olyphant and Drew Barrymore as Joel and Shelia, a husband and wife real estate team whose normal, boring lives change when Shelia shows symptoms of having become a woman. The three seasons follow the family as they attempt to find the cause of the condition and deal with Shelia’s newfound craving for human flesh.
