Deadline is reporting that Netflix’s Resident Evil series has been canceled after its first season this past July.

The eight-episode series received a mixed reception from series fans and the general public, releasing to a 27% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The show premiered with 72.7 million hours viewed in the first week — making it the second most watched series that week behind Stranger Things. It fell to third place in its second week, then dropped out of the top 10 by week three.

The live-action Resident Evil series hailed from Supernatural executive producer Andrew Dabb, who served as showrunner, writer, and executive producer on the series. It starred John Wick star Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker, the villainous head of Umbrella Corporation.

“Set in the year 2036, 14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures,” reads the synopsis. “In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation, but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.”
