During an interview with ComingSoon, Birdgirl star Paget Brewster discussed the process of returning to voice the character in her own series.

Brewster originally thought she would have to audition to play the character again, after first playing Birdgirl throughout the original run of Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, and most recently in 2018’s Harvey Birdman: Attorney General special. This would prove to not be the case.

“It was super exciting,” Brewster recalled. “I was so surprised when Michael Ouweleen and Erik Richter had said, ‘Hey, we’re pitching Birdgirl as its own series.’ I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s, that’s awesome. Will you let me audition for it?’ Erik was like, ‘What do you mean? You are Birdgirl. What do you mean audition for it?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, well, I thought, you know, they’re going to try and get someone super famous,’ and he was like, ‘No, you’re Birdgirl. We’re going to pitch it, and I’ll let you know if they pick it up.’ And they did.”

Brewster went on to speak about how Birdgirl is more of its own show than a Harvey Birdman spin-off:

“It immediately feels like its own show that works really well, not just sort of like a little spin-off,” Brewster clarified. “They did a really great job of creating that whole world of Sebben & Sebben and the company and Judy and Birdgirl, and Mayor and all of the people that she works with, ‘The Feels’ and everybody, Dog with Bucket Hat, Birdcat, like all of it.”

Brewster also mentioned that both seasons are now on HBO Max, and voiced her hopes for a third season to be greenlit.

“When Phil Ken Sebben is killed in an accident, he names Birdgirl as the successor of Sebben & Sebben Worldwide,” reads Birdgirl‘s synopsis. “With help from her friend Meredith the Mind Taker, Birdgirl was able to get Judy to be the new CEO of Sebben & Sebben while still fighting crime on the side.”
