Nick Baker of the XboxEra Podcast has reported over the weekend that Xbox could have a new collection of Gears of War games in the works for release this year. This would presumably follow in the footsteps of The Master Chief Collection, a Halo compilation that included everything in the franchise through Halo 4 alongside tons of remastered content.

Baker was originally coy about what franchise would get the collection treatment on the podcast but eventually relented when his chat all guessed that it would be the third-person shooter juggernaut. In addition, Baker said that it made sense to be a reveal for Xbox’s June showcase, especially since it’s rumored to be hitting the console by the end of the calendar year. Of course, nothing has been confirmed or hinted at, so only time will tell if this comes to fruition.

Gears of War has seen one remaster already, and it was a pretty well-received one. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition redid the original game’s campaign for the Xbox One in 2016. It brought new levels from the PC release to consoles for the first time and modernized the visuals. It was also the first game in the series for The Coalition, the team that has fostered Gears of War since Epic Games ended its original trilogy and went off to take over the gaming world with Fortnite.

A possible Gears collection could give the same treatment to Gears of War 2 and 3, and even possibly include the People Can Fly-developed spin-off title Gears Judgment. None of these games ever saw a PC release, meaning the collection could also bring the game to new audiences, too.

It’s unclear if a possible ‘Marcus Fenix Collection‘ would also include either of the Xbox One entries or focus specifically on bringing the Xbox 360 titles up to date. Either way, a collection does make sense since The Coalition has said since 2021 to not expect Gears 6 or anything else from the studio for a long while.
