If you weren’t aware that Alfred Pennyworth was Batman’s butler, then the new teaser trailer for Pennyworth season 3 aims to hammer that into your skull. The DC prequel series explores the early life of young Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), a former SAS soldier who forms a security company in 1960s London. Together with young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) and his wife Martha (Emma Paetz), Pennyworth finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy that threatens to start a civil war.

The first two seasons of Pennyworth debuted on Epix, but the new season of the DC series will make the leap to HBO Max. If you’ve watched the Pennyworth season 3 teaser above, you’ll know that the series has a new and rather unnecessary title — Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler. I mean… I get it. It makes sense from a marketing perspective. Grab a few Batman fans who might have otherwise passed the series by while scrolling, but the official synopsis teases that the series may be putting more of a focus on heroes and villains.

Season three of the psychological thriller begins after a five-year time jump: the civil war is over, and a cultural revolution has changed the world for better or worse – ushering in a new age of Super Heroes and Supervillains.

In addition to Jack Bannon, Ben Aldridge, and Emam Paetz, Pennyworth also stars Paloma Faith, Ryan Fletcher, Dorothy Atkinson, Ramon Tikaram, Harriet Slater, and Simon Manyonda. Based on DC characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, the ten-episode drama series from Warner Bros. Television was developed by Gotham‘s Bruno Heller, who also executive produces alongside Matthew Patnick, Danny Cannon, and John Stephens. Pennyworth season 3 will debut on HBO Max this October.
