Black Bird star Paul Walter Hauser joins Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, and Hong Chau for The Instigators, a thriller for Apple.
Deadline has reported that Paul Walter Hauser is set to join Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, and Hong Chau for The Instigators.
The Instigators will find Matt Damon and Casey Affleck playing two thieves on the run with the help of one of their therapists after a robbery gone wrong. No word on who Paul Walter Hauser will play in The Instigators, but it’s exciting to have him on board. The script was written by Chuck MacLean and Casey Affleck and was developed by Jeff Robinov, John Graham, and Casey Affleck. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck will produce through their Artists Equity banner, which “partners with filmmakers to empower creative vision and broaden access to profit participation.” Jeff Robinov and John Graham will also produce through Studio 8, as well as Kevin Walsh through The Walsh Company.
Paul Walter Hauser was recently seen starring alongside Taron Egerton in Dennis Lehane’s Black Bird for Apple TV+. Hauser played Lawrence “Larry” Hall in the series, a suspected serial killer who is befriended by Egerton’s character in an attempt to get him to confess. You can check out a review of the series from our own Alex Maidy right here. Hauser will next be seen in the second season of The Afterparty, also for Apple TV+, and also stars in Americana alongside Sydney Sweeny, a crime thriller from Tony Tost, which will premiere at SXSW on March 17th.
As for Matt Damon, his next project tells the story of the creation of Nike’s Air Jordan brand. Ben Affleck will direct, co-star, and produce, while Matt Damon will star and produce. Damon plays Sonny Vaccarro, with Affleck playing Nike co-founder Phil Knight. The movie will revolve around “Nike’s longshot effort to sign rising superstar basketball player Michael Jordan to its shoe company in the mid-eighties, an endorsement that seemed impossible at the time but thanks to the maverick sneaker salesman, would become the most significant relationship between an athletic brand and an athlete. The deal launched the global, multi-billion-dollar contemporary sneaker industry and also helped the sport do the same.” Air is set to be released on April 5th.
