Overwatch has been throwing the same limited-time events since its release. However, that is changing just a bit as Blizzard Entertainment is amping up work on the sequel. The studio announced that it is going to hold remixed events instead, which are, as their name implies, tweaked versions of all the classic events.

While Blizzard did announce the first one of these remixed events — the Anniversary Remix — in a tweet, the developer broke them down more generally on its website. Remixed events will take the place of regular events and offer altered iterations of six classic Legendary skin designs to allow Blizzard to more easily focus on Overwatch 2. Events have usually offered a slate of all-new skins, so it is understandable that Blizzard is scaling back and focusing more on the second game.

The three-part Anniversary Remix will take the place of the Summer Games, Archives, and normal Anniversary events and will just focus more on variant skins during those times when the first part starts on April 5 and ends on April 24. This time frame implies that this is the “Archives” version of the three parts since the Archive events usually take place in April.

These remixes will also let players unlock any past skin from that event, as has always been the case. And since the Anniversary events have skins from all events, players should have a wide variety of cosmetics to unlock in this three-part event just before transferring them to Overwatch 2. Anniversary remixes will also bring back mini-events, which are the smaller events that focus on one character, as well as the rotating batch of seasonal brawls in the Arcade mode. Blizzard did not explicitly discuss other remixed events like a possible Halloween Terror Remix or Winter Wonderland Remix, but those are likely in the cards.

Dotesports reported that Mage Mercy, Demon Genji, Evermore Reaper, Steelhardt Reinhardt, White Cat D.Va, and Zealot Zenyatta are the first of the variant skins. Bastet Ana, Combat Medic Baptiste, and Nano D.Va will also all be the first three mini-events in this Anniversary Remix.
