Original Pokémon Snap Coming to Nintendo Switch Online

Pokémon Snap is one of the most iconic Nintendo 64 games and now it’s about to make its way to the Switch. The original Pokémon Snap is headed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription service, with Nintendo announcing the game will appear on the platform on June 24, 2022.

Pokémon Snap operates almost identically to an on-rails shooter, except instead of taking down enemies, players have to take the best photograph of various Pokémon that you possibly can. Originally released in 1999, the game became something of a cult classic amongst Pokémon fans, and a new version of the game — New Pokémon Snap — released in 2021 for the Nintendo Switch.

Pokémon Snap is the 16th game to be included in the premium tier of Nintendo’s online subscription service, and will join the likes of other classics like Mario Kart 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Star Fox 64, and Super Mario 64. Nintendo had also originally announced in October 2021 that Pokémon Snap would be hitting the service, but it didn’t specify when until now.

For those looking to venture off to Pokémon Island, the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack costs $49.99 annually for a single person, or $79.99 annually for a family plan, which lets up to eight people join a single plan.

Alongside the ability to download classic Nintendo 64 games, the plan also grants players access to certain Sega Genesis games — including Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Streets of Rage 2, and Ecco the Dolphin — as well as a variety of new content for more modern Nintendo titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8, and Splatoon 2.
