Six years after working with director Ben Brewer on the crime thriller The Trust, Nicolas Cage – who is both the star of National Treasure and a national treasure himself – has signed on to re-team with Brewer on the survival thriller Sand and Stones. Filming is set to begin in November in Dublin, Ireland.
Scripted by Michael Nilon (Braven), Sand and Stones has the following synopsis:
In the future, in a sparsely populated world, normal life has been decimated. Paul (Cage) and his twin teenage sons, Thomas and Joseph, have managed to claw out an existence in their remote farmhouse, yet they live in constant fear. When the sun sets, ferocious creatures of the night awaken to hunt and consume all living souls in their path. And when Thomas makes one small mistake, the nocturnal creatures gain the upper hand and come for them. In a race against time, Paul, Thomas and Joseph must execute a desperate plan for survival.
Cage is producing the film through his company Saturn Films, alongside Nilon, Braxton Pope, David Wulf of Redline Entertainment, and Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier of Highland Film Group. Aperture’s Slava Vladimirov, Jared Underwood, and Andrew Robinson serve as executive producers. Highland Film Group is co-financing the project and handling the world rights.
Fraser had this to say about Sand and Stones: “We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Nicolas, a superb actor whose worldwide influence and legendary charm is second to none. Sand and Stones is an exciting survival-action film, with a high-energy storyline brilliantly written by Mike. The film is packed with global appeal. Ben is the perfect director to bring this electrifying and apocalyptic script to life!“
Perrier added: “As the Lead Visual Effects Artist on Everything Everywhere All at Once, Ben showed us his utterly unique imagination and we cannot wait to experience his vision. Our first project with Ben Brewer was The Trust and we are looking forward to working again with this talented filmmaker.“
All I needed to hear was “Nicolas Cage vs. ferocious creatures”. I’m sold! How does Sand and Stones sound to you? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
