Last week, we heard that the Dracula-inspired horror film The Invitation (formerly known as The Bride) is heading toward an August 26th theatrical release. Since that date is so close, it’s no surprise that a trailer for The Invitation has now arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above, then take a look at the film’s poster at the bottom of this article. IGN got the first look at the trailer and poster.

The Invitation was directed by Jessica M. Thompson (The Light of the Moon) from a screenplay by Blair Butler, who originally pitched the project. Butler’s previous credits include Polaroid and Helstrom. Thompson handled script revisions herself. We’ve previous heard that the film is described as a

contemporary thriller that tells the story of young woman invited to a lavish destination wedding in England, only to realize her presence at the wedding has sinister motivations.

IGN shared a more substantial synopsis:

After the death of her mother and having no other known relatives, Evie (Nathalie Emmanuel) takes a DNA test…and discovers a long-lost cousin she never knew she had. Invited by her newfound family to a lavish wedding in the English countryside, she’s at first seduced by the sexy aristocrat host but is soon thrust into a nightmare of survival as she uncovers twisted secrets in her family’s history and the unsettling intentions behind their sinful generosity.

Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones) is joined in the cast by Thomas Doherty (Descendants), Hugh Skinner (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), Sean Pertwee (Dog Soldiers), Courtney Taylor (Insecure), Alana Boden (I Am Elizabeth Smart), and Stephanie Corneliussen (Mr. Robot).

Emile Gladstone produced the film for Screen Gems. The studio is said to be excited about The Invitation, feeling that it has franchise potential. If this one is a success, we might have several more Invitations to look forward to.
