Producer Todd Garner took to Twitter to confirm that the Mortal Kombat 2 production on New Line Cinema’s upcoming fantasy action sequel has officially begun. In his post, he promised that they’ve learned from their past mistakes with the first installment and are “committed to making the best MK2 possible.” At the time of writing, Warner Bros. has not yet made any announcement regarding the sequel’s release date.

Who’s the Cast of Mortal Kombat 2?

Mortal Kombat 2 is being directed by Simon McQuoid from a screenplay written by Moon Knight head writer Jeremy Slater. The sequel will feature the return of Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, and Max Huang as Kung Lao.

The action sequel will also introduce a number of new characters in the form The Boys star Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph (Resident Evil) as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle (You) as Jade, Martyn Ford (F9) as emperor Shao Kahn, Mindhunter’s Damon Herriman as Netherrealm demon Quan Chi, Desmond Chiam (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) as Edenian King Jerrod and Ana Thu Nguyen (Get Free) as Queen Sindel.

Further details about the next installment’s plot are still being kept under wraps. It is produced by James Wan, Michael Clear, Todd Garner, and E. Bennet Walsh.
