Moon Knight, premiere, Oscar Isaac

We finally welcomed Moon Knight to the Marvel Cinematic Universe last week with the premiere of the Oscar Isaac series on Disney+. Isaac stars in Moon Knight as Marc Spector, an ex-soldier with a case of dissociative identity disorder that manifests as distinct individuals who become the conduit for the Egyptian moon god Khonshu.

According to Samba TV, the premiere of Moon Knight drew 1.8 million U.S. households over its first five days. This number ties with The Falcon and the Winter Solider and inches ahead of WandaVision with 1.6 million U.S. households and Hawkeye with 1.5 million U.S. households. Loki remains the most-watched Marvel series premiere on Disney+ with 2.5 million U.S. households. Samba TV, a third-party researcher, measures more than 3 million SmartTV households across America. The viewership number includes all those who tuned into Moon Knight for at least 5 minutes.

Although Moon Knight may not have taken Loki‘s place as the most-watched MCU series, the numbers are still very impressive for a character who hadn’t been introduced before and may not be familiar to the casual fan. Audiences had gotten to know Loki (as played by Tom Hiddleston) over the course of multiple movies, so it’s understandable why they turned out in a big way for his series. You can check out a glowing review of the first four episodes of Moon Knight from our own Alex Maidy right here. We also have interviews with directors Mohamed Diab, Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson, as well as executive producer Grant Curtis.

The official synopsis for Moon Knight:

The series follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.

The Moon Knight premiere is now streaming on Disney+ with the second episode dropping this Wednesday.
