The Witcher, Minnie Driver, Blood Origin

I wouldn’t have expected that Minnie Driver would be joining The Witcher franchise, but here we are. It was announced during Netflix’s recent TUDUM event that the actress would be joining the cast of The Witcher: Blood Origin, the upcoming prequel series which revolves around the Conjunction of the Spheres and the creation of the first prototype witcher.

The Witcher: Blood Origin creator Declan de Barra has since revealed details on who Minnie Driver will be playing in the prequel series, and it seems that her character will have an impact on the main Witcher series as well. Driver will play Seanchaí, who De Barra describes as “a shapeshifting storyteller that can travel between worlds and time. She’s essentially a collector of stories that are forgotten. She believes this story needs to be told again in the modern Witcher world for progress to be made in the future.” You can check out an image of Minnie Driver in The Witcher: Blood Origin below.

Minnie Driver, The Witcher, Blood Origin

The Witcher: Blood Origin is set in an elven world 1,200 years before the world of The Witcher and will tell a story lost to time – the origin of the very first Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.

Blood Origin finds Sophia Brown starring as Éile, “a warrior among the once-thriving elven society who gave up her position in the Queens-guard to pursue the life of a travelling minstrel.” Laurence O’Fuarain also stars as Fjall, an “elven strongman out to avenge the death of a friend,” with Michelle Yeoh rounding out the trio as Scian, “the last of a tribe of nomadic sword-elves on a mission to retrieve an ancient sword that was stolen.” Although the show was conceived and shot as a six-episode series, it was later condensed to four-episodes.

The Witcher: Blood Origin will premiere on Netflix on December 25th, with the third season of The Witcher following in the summer of 2023.
