The official trailer for Saban Films‘ upcoming independent comedy titled A Little White Lie has been released, featuring Michael Shannon as a handyman who assumes the identity of an elusive and famous writer. The film will make its debut on March 3 in theaters and on VOD.

The A Little White Lie trailer shows Kate Hudson’s Simone Cleary, an English professor who tries to revive her department by inviting the famous writer Shriver to their college literary festival. However, the only problem is that she mistakenly sent the invitation to the wrong person.

Based on Chris Belden’s 2013 novel titled Shriver, A Little White Lie is written and directed by Michael Maren. Joining Shannon and Hudson are Don Johnson (Knives Out), Zach Braff (Scrubs), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Puss in Boots: The Last Wish), Jimmi Simpson (Westworld), Aja Naomi King (How to Get Away with Murder), Kate Linder (The Young and Restless), Wendie Malick (Dream On), Peyton List (Cobra Kai), and more.

“Shriver, a down-on-his-luck handyman who has never read a book in his life, is mistaken for a famous writer that has been in hiding for over 20 years,” reads the synopsis. “With nothing to lose, he accepts an invitation to attend a college literary festival and finds himself surrounded by adoring fans and an English professor who captures his heart. Shriver must do whatever it takes for his shot at love in this fish-out-of-water comedy.”

The film is produced by Jina Panebianco and Michael J. Reiser for CaliWood Pictures, Robert Ogden Barnum, Byron Wetzel, Lucas Jarach, and Josh Kesselman. Executive producers are Wesley R. Sierk, III, John D. Straley, and Joseph Panebianco.
