I’ve been gushing over my love for Scream VI since I finally caught it. Look, another slasher icon terrorizing New York didn’t seem like a movie I’d love, but I’m a fan. The new film features the return of Courtney Cox, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding. It also marks the return of Kirby Reed with the lovely Hayden Panettiere from Scream 4. It’s impressive how screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, along with the directing team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, have brought the franchise back in a satisfying way.

As a fan, it was a thrill to get the opportunity to speak with the filmmakers and cast members of Scream VI. First up, we spoke with both Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett about continuing this story and how they approached this “requel sequel.” We also talked to a number of the cast, including Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding. Melissa was charming as she discussed taking on such a complex leading lady in a horror film. And frankly, it was such a joy getting the nickname “Sprinkles” from Brown and Gooding. The two couldn’t have been more pleasant. And Jasmin shared a sweet story about her cat.

And when it comes to new actors in the Scream universe, I absolutely loved chatting with the very talented Dermot Mulroney. Always. As a long-time fan of the actor, I noted that I’ve spoken to him more for horror than anything else. He opened up about being a part of this franchise and genre in general. Dermot has an impressive career, and I give him a whole lot of credit for taking on new challenges later in his career in Hollywood. And yes, he, along with the rest of the cast, are all terrific here.

Scream VI opens this Friday, and I highly recommend it (read our review). If you’ve been following this franchise, you’re in for a treat with the fun and frights on display.
