“Yes. We’re talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two Pirates scripts — one with her, one without,” Bruckheimer told The Times said when asked about whether or not he was working on a Pirates of the Caribbean film with a female lead. This comes after plenty of speculation online as to whether Robbie would be in the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film or a female-led spin-off, following a report stating that Robbie would be in a Pirates film written by Christina Hodson back in June of 2020.

In the same interview, Bruckheimer was also asked about if Johnny Depp would return to the franchise. “Not at this point,” the veteran replied. “The future is yet to be decided.”

Little more is known about the next Pirates film, as it currently has no release window or plot synopsis. The most recent movie in the series was Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which was released in theaters in 2017.
