The following post contains SPOILERS for Nope. If you read further than this, and get upset about something getting ruined for you, well, you can go enjoy a nice Friday afternoon show at Jupiter’s Claim.

Let’s face it, a lot of movies that get articles “explaining” their endings do not require any kind of clarification. Did you really need the ending of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 explained? That one seemed pretty self-explanatory to me.

But in the case of Jordan Peele’s Nope, I can see some viewers leaving the theater with some lingering questions about the precise nature of that mysterious thing in the clouds above Haywood’s Hollywood Horses, what it wanted, where it came from, how OJ and Emerald set out to stop it, and who is left standing when the dust finally settles in the Agua Dulce desert.

Below I’ve listed some of the questions I expect viewers might have (or that I had myself!) along with my best attempts to answer them based on the film, as well as some details from the Nope press notes. But beyond that, can I guarantee every theory and educated guess I have is 100 percent accurate? Nope.
