According to Variety, Emmy-nominated comedian Leslie Jones has been tapped for the leading role in Warner Bros. Animation’s untitled DC adult animated comedy series, which is said to be in the early stages of development. Further details about its plot and characters are still being kept under wraps, but Jones is expected to lend her voice to the role of Plastic Woman.

It is understood that the upcoming series isn’t connected at all to the previously announced female-led film adaptation centering around the character of DC superhero Plastic Man. It’s also unclear how similar Jones’ Plastic Woman will be to the original character.
The adult animated comedy will be executive produced by Jones, who recently starred in HBO Max’s Our Flag Means Death for the recurring role of Spanish Jackie. The Saturday Night Live alum is no stranger to the animated genre, as she previously starred in two animated films, 2016’s Sing and 2019’s The Angry Birds Movie 2. She also voiced a character in Hulu’s now-canceled adult animated comedy The Awesomes in 2015.

Plastic Man was initially created by Jack Cole for Quality Comics in 1941 but was bought by DC in 1956 when Quality Comics folded. Plastic Man, a.k.a Patrick “Eel” O’Brian, was part of a gang and during a botched heist is shot while also being doused with a chemical liquid. Left for dead by the gang, Patrick awakens to find himself imbued with the power to shapeshift and stretch his body into almost anything thanks to being the most malleable man alive. The former crook eventually reforms and becomes a police officer. Plastic Man went on to join the Justice League at one point and also had his own cartoon series.
