Law & Order, revival, Law & Order: Organized Crime, renewed, NBC

The Law & Order franchise will continue to thrive at NBC. It has been announced that the Law & Order revival and its spinoff, Law & Order: Organized Crime, have both been renewed at NBC.

This will technically be the 22nd season for Law & Order while Law & Order: Organized Crime will be back for a third. Law & Order was revived last year for a 21st season after being abruptly canceled by NBC eleven and a half years ago. Law & Order: SVU was previously renewed as a part of a three-year pickup for what will be its 24th season on the network. That series continues to be the longest-running primetime live-action series of all time.

Dick Wolf and his Wolf Entertainment are behind the Law & Order franchise and he’s having one hell of a hot streak. Just yesterday, the three FBI shows on CBS were handed two-year renewals. Also at NBC, Wolf is behind the Chicago franchise which includes Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med. Those shows were given three-season renewals back when SVU received its three-year re-up.

Law & Order returned back in February and it has helped NBC rank No.1 on Thursday nights in the 18-49 demo with its all Law & Order lineup, per Deadline. Law & Order: Organized Crime is also No.1 in its 10:00 PM Thursday timeslot in the 18-49 demo. Dick Wolf had this to say about the recent renewals:

“Dreams do come true. The renewals of the entire Wednesday and Thursday night lineups is the ultimate verification of our partnership with NBC and Universal Television. I personally want to thank the talented writers and casts, the producers who keep the trains running on time and the crews who tirelessly turn out outstanding shows despite a degree of difficulty never before experienced due to the pandemic.”

Per the official synopsis, the revived Law & Order examines “The police who investigate crime and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders.” The series stars Sam Waterston, Anthony Anderson, Jeffrey Donovan, Camryn Manheim, Hugh Dancy, and Odelya Halevi.

Law & Order: Organized Crime saw the return of SVU’s Christopher Meloni’s Elliot Stabler and has him serving in the NYPD organized crime unit. The show follows the detectives of the Organized Crime Control Bureau as they work to dismantle New York City’s most vicious and violent illegal enterprises. The series also stars Danielle Moné Truitt, Tamara Taylor, Ainsley Seiger, and Dylan McDermott, who recently departed the show to headline Dick Wolf’s CBS series FBI: Most Wanted.

Are YOU happy to see these two shows return?
