Yesterday was Friday the 13th, so many fans of the Friday the 13th franchise spent the day anxiously checking the Internet, waiting to see if any news would drop about Crystal Lake, the Friday the 13th TV series that’s coming our way from Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller, Friday the 13th franchise rights holders Victor Miller and Rob Barsamian (plus Miller’s lawyer Marc Toberoff), A24, and the Peacock streaming service. No official press releases were sent out – but Fuller did attend a 3D theatrical screening of Friday the 13th Part III last night, and participated in a Q&A with a couple of the stars of that film. And thankfully, he did reveal some new information about Crystal Lake during the Q&A!
Journalist and podcast host Eric Goldman was in attendance for that Part III screening, and shared Fuller’s Crystal Lake news to Twitter: “Crystal Lake info from Bryan Fuller! They officially start writing in 2 weeks (writers are here in audience). It will have two scores to choose from – a modern one and a classic Harry Manfredini one. Kevin Williamson is writing an episode. Adrienne King will have a recurring role. Yay! Fuller has pitched four seasons for Crystal Lake. Only one officially ordered so far though he notes Peacock would have to pay a pretty hefty penalty if they didn’t order a Season 2. Asked if he can confirm Pamela’s role in the Crystal Lake series, Fuller replied “We’re honestly going to be covering it all. The series is covering the life and times of these two characters” (presumably he’s referring to Pamela and Jason there!)“
If you need refreshers on some of the people named there: Harry Manfredini is the composer who provided the scores for most of the films in the Friday the 13th franchise. Adrienne King played the final girl in the original Friday the 13th – then her character was killed off at the start of Friday the 13th Part 2. Kevin Williamson is a screenwriter best known for writing Scream. (He’s also responsible for this weekend’s Peacock release Sick.)
Fuller has previously said that he had mapped out three seasons of Crystal Lake. Apparently he has cracked season 4 as well since he said that. He has described the show as a “pre-remake-quel” and said that they can use any elements they want from the entire Friday the 13th franchise. The plan is that we will see “many familiar manifestations of Jason” throughout the series.
What do you think of this Crystal Lake update? Two scores, Kevin Williamson, Adrienne King… Let us know by leaving a comment below!
