Thanos, Kang, Marvel

The first decade of the Marvel Cinematic Universe consisted of The Infinity Saga, which found Thanos (Josh Brolin) seeking the Infinity Stones to reshape the universe. The next stage of the MCU, officially known as The Multiverse Saga, brings a new villain to rival Thanos — Kang the Conqueror.

Jonathan Majors made his MCU debut in the first season of Loki as He Who Remains, but he will be playing the full-fledged Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. While speaking with ComicBook.com at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige sang Jonathan Majors’ praises and explained how Kang will be a totally different villain from Thanos.

It comes down to the cast and with Jonathan Majors, who I think took over the Hall H stage, you know, in the three minutes he was up there. It’s amazing, and I said to him there’s nobody’s shoulders I’d rather be putting the multiverse saga on than his. It’s really impressive what Jonathan Majors is able to do and all the different incarnations, variants, if you will, of Kang that we will see him do. It’s really pretty cool.

Kevin Feige continued: “What I love is that he’s totally different from Thanos. That he is completely different. That it’s not just how about there’s a bigger purple guy with a helmet? That’s not what Kang is. Kang is a very different type of villain and the fact that he is many, many different characters is what’s most exciting and most differentiates him. Much like Thanos, Kang will have a significant influence on the MCU. In addition to laying out Phase 5 of the MCU, Feige also revealed that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars will bring The Multiverse Saga to a close, so it’s clear Kang will be here to stay for some time.

Kang the Conqueror appeared in the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania which screened at Comic-Con, so hopefully, the rest of us will get to watch it before too long. The Ant-Man sequel will hit theaters on February 17, 2023.
