Ke Huy Quan, Short Round, Indiana Jones

After standout roles in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies, Key Huy Quan essentially retired from Hollywood some years later. Ke Huy Quan made a triumphant return last year with his critically acclaimed role in Everything Everywhere All at Once, but the actor is keen to return to the role that started it all — Short Round.

While speaking on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Ke Huy Quan said that he still loves Short Round; after all, the character is “funny and courageous and saves Indy’s ass.” As for whether or not he’d ever return to the role, Key Huy Quan is just waiting for Disney and Lucasfilm to call him.

If Disney or Lucasfilm ever come to me and say, ‘We want to do a Short Round spin-off’, I’m there man! I love that character so much and it would just be incredible to revisit so many years later.

As for where Short Round would be all these years after his first appearance in The Temple of Doom, Quan isn’t certain, but he guesses that the character might have followed in the footsteps of his pal Dr. Jones and become an archeologist.

Ke Huy Quan reunited with Harrison Ford last year at Disney’s D23 Expo. Ford was there to promote Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, while Quan was there as a cast member of the second season of Loki. When someone asked him if he wanted to see Ford, Quan told the New York Times that he couldn’t say no. “I’m thinking, ‘Of course! I haven’t seen him in 38 years,’” Quan said. “So I walk out and I see him about 15 feet away talking to Phoebe Waller-Bridge, they’re there to promote ‘Indy 5.’ And as I walk close, my heart is pounding. I’m thinking, ‘Is he gonna recognize me? The last time he saw me, I was a little kid.’” Quan continued, “As I get closer, he turns and points his finger at me, and he has that classic, famous, grumpy Harrison Ford look. I go, ‘Oh my gosh, he probably thinks I’m a fan and he’s gonna tell me to not come near him.’ But he looks and points at me and says, ‘Are you Short Round?’ Immediately, I was transported back to 1984, when I was a little kid, and I said, ‘Yes, Indy.’ And he said, ‘Come here,’ and gave me a big hug.

Would you like to see Ke Huy Quan return as Short Round for an Indiana Jones spinoff?
