Jesse Eisenberg Talks Possible DCEU Return

Jesse Eisenberg got the chance to briefly portray the iconic Superman villain Lex Luthor in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and again in both iterations of the Justice League film. However, Eisenberg doesn’t ever see himself getting the chance to take up the role again.

Speaking during an appearance at the Sarajevo Film Festival to promote his directorial debut, When You Finish Saving the World, Eisenberg was asked about a potential return to the world of DC, to which Eisenberg said he would be “shocked” if he ever ended up doing another one.

“I’d be shocked if I wound up in a DC movie, but it would be a pleasant shock,” Eisenberg said, before explaining that he was never a huge comic book fan, to begin with. “Listen, I’m not a comic book fan. To me, it was not playing a role that I’d envisioned since childhood. To me, it was a chance to play this great character that this great writer wrote, and I loved doing that. So, to play it is a joy, and to not play it isn’t something that I’m going to be ashamed to tell my kids about, because that is not an important genre in my life, even though I loved doing that movie.”

Despite not growing up a comic book fan, Eisenberg did say that he wouldn’t turn down a role in another comic book movie film if it came to him. “Yeah. Because as an actor, you do all kinds of different things, and sometimes great roles show up in really commercial things and sometimes terrible roles show up in independent films.”

For now, it seems like Warner Bros. Discovery has all but done away with adding more to the Snyderverse outside of films like the upcoming The Flash, so any hopes of Eisenberg returning to the world of comic book films might have to come in the form of another film.
