Jennifer Connelly, Dark Matter, Apple series

Jennifer Connelly will join Joel Edgerton in Dark Matter, Apple’s series adaptation of the Blake Crouch novel.

The nine-episode sci-fi series stars Joel Edgerton as Jason Desson, “a physicist, professor, and family man who – one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago – is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the multiverse of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of mind-bending realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, unbeatable foe imaginable: himself.” Jennifer Connelly will star alongside Joel Edgerton in Dark Matter as Daniela, Jason’s wife. Blake Crouch will serve as the showrunner and writer of Dark Matter and will also executive produce alongside Joel Edgerton. Jakob Verbruggen (Invasion) will direct the first three episodes of the series.

Jennifer Connelly doesn’t head to television often, but she most recently starred as Melanie Cavill in TNT’s Snowpiercer series, which will be coming to an end with its upcoming fourth season. Based on the 2013 movie of the same name directed by Bong Joon-ho and the 1982 graphic novel Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand, and Jean-Marc Rochette, Snowpiercer deals with class warfare, social injustice, and survival as it follows the passengers of the Snowpiercer, a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe carrying the remnants of humanity seven years after the world becomes a frozen wasteland. Connelly also starred in The Street, a short-lived drama series that aired on Fox over twenty years ago. The actress most recently starred alongside Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, the highest-grossing movie of the year.
