Jenna Ortega may play Winona Ryder’s daughter in the long-rumoured Beetlejuice 2 for her Wednesday director Tim Burton.

Wednesday Jenna Ortega

Jenna Ortega may be re-teaming with her Wednesday director Tim Burton for his long-delayed Beetlejuice 2. The news came via an item from THR, which maintains that WB, the studio behind the film, has yet to comment. However, the same report says that Michael Keaton is primed to reprise the title role, with Winona Ryder also returning. Ortega would play the daughter of Ryder’s Lydia.

Beetlejuice 2 has been on the docket for Burton for decades now, so much so that we’ve written articles about the various versions that never got made. Burton recently said he was working on ideas, but it was still early days. Likely, the massive success of his Wednesday show on Netflix with Ortega led to him signing on to the long-rumoured sequel. Indeed, this would be the second time in recent years that Michael Keaton has reprised an iconic role for Warner Bros, with him also starring as Batman in WB’s much-hyped The Flash (he was also primed to be a part of the Batgirl film).

However, this all comes with the caveat that just because a project seems logical does not mean it will definitely happen. THR is citing “sources,” but no one is confirming anything, although the timing would be right with Ortega starring in this weekend’s Scream VI and set for a second season of Wednesday. Perhaps Burton saw something in Ortega that finally got him to commit to the project.
