James Gunn Superman

It didn’t take long after James Gunn was named co-CEO of DC Studios before the speculation, theories and rumors began. Gunn has taken it all head on so far, playing his own form of publicist, especially as it relates to DC’s most popular properties, such as Superman. In just the latest example, he has shut down a Twitter troll over claims that James Gunn hates Henry Cavill.

In response to a tweet (seen below) that “James Gunn does not like Henry Cavill”, James Gunn replied that this is downright untrue. When the tweeter responded he was just relaying what dozens of people told him, Gunn shut him down, dishing out a classic schoolyard jab: “So weird. You seemed so plugged in! Anyway, I just had forty people reach out to me to say you just got kicked out of your Mom’s basement. So sorry, man.”

The original tweeter later doubled down, posting, “I’m still really excited about James Gunn’s DCU! Even though he clearly HATES Henry Cavill”. We assume James Gunn is a little too busy running a major movie studio to reply right away.

DC has made some major changes ever since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over their roles. The most notable so far has been the axing of Wonder Woman 3, which “is considered dead in its current incarnation.”

The question at the forefront now is, Will there be another Superman movie with Henry Cavill under James Gunn? Considering Cavill doesn’t have a contract to play the character, one wonders if the shifts in what is getting greenlit or cut will make Cavill’s return a short-lived one.

Fans may still expect a future Superman movie from DC Studios, as James Gunn is a massive Man of Steel fan, even tweeting on Saturday commemorating the 44th anniversary of the 1978 version.
