Director James Gunn has confirmed that pop star Miley Cyrus was unable to reprise her role from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in the recent sequel.
Was Miley Cyrus unable to reprise her Guardians of the Galaxy role?
After a Twitter user asked the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director if Miley Cyrus was not able to reprise her role as Mainframe in the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Gunn confirmed that Cyrus was unable to. The filmmaker also confirmed that she’s the same character that she was in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, despite being voiced by Tara Strong this time around.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is once again written and directed by James Gunn. MCU vets Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Sean Gunn, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel return to reprise their respective roles as Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Kraglin, Nebula, Mantis, Rocket, and Groot, while Maria Bakalova joins on as Cosmo the Spacedog. The sequel also features the introduction of franchise newcomers Will Poulter and Chukwudi Iwuji, who portray the roles of Adam Warlock and the High Evolutionary.
“In the film, our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days,” reads the synopsis. “Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.”
The space-traveling team was last seen in Marvel Studios’ Disney+ special presentation Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which was filmed simultaneously with the upcoming sequel. In the holiday special, Drax and Mantis try to cheer up Peter by throwing him a Christmas party celebration with the appearance of his childhood idol Kevin Bacon.
