Jackie Chan to star in A Legend, a $50 million sequel to the 2005 martial arts fantasy-adventure The Myth.

Jackie Chan has signed on to star in A Legend, a martial arts fantasy-adventure movie which will be a sequel to his 2005 movie The Myth.

The sequel to The Myth will find Jackie Chan reprising his role as archaeology expert Professor Chen. “The film’s action begins when he notices that the texture on the artifacts discovered by his students during a glacier expedition is strikingly similar to a jade pendant he had seen in his dreams,” reads the description. “Suspecting that the pendant is acting as a bridge between the realm of dreams and reality, Professor Chen leads his research team on a journey deep into the Glacier Temple, embarking on a fantastical adventure.A Legend will be directed by Stanley Tong, a long-time collaborator of Chan who has helmed Police Story 3, Rumble in the Bronx, and The Myth.

A Legend will have a budget of $50 million, a large sum for the Chinese film industry and considerably more than the original’s $15 million budget. The Myth grossed $120 million worldwide, so the producers are hoping for another big success. In addition to Jackie Chan, The Myth sequel will also star Yixing Zhang (Kung Fu Yoga) and Coulee Nazha (Police Story 2013).

Jackie Chan is also expected to reunite with Chris Tucker for Rush Hour 4, the much-talked about sequel to the action-comedy franchise. Chan confirmed last year that he was in talks for Rush Hour 4, and Chris Tucker added in March that he’s “definitely” ready to return as well. “You’re going to see a lot of good stuff coming, but it’s going to be on a whole other level,” Tucker said. “That’s what I like… I’m excited about that. It’s not going to be what you’ve normally seen… ‘Rush Hour 4,’ that’s something I definitely will probably drop in there because I love working with Jackie, but I’ve got some new stuff that I think you’re really gonna like. I’m excited about it.” The first Rush Hour movie starred Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker as Chief Inspector Lee and Detective James Carter, two mismatched police officers assigned to rescue a Chinese diplomat’s abducted daughter. The film was a big success, spawning two sequels, Rush Hour 2 and Rush Hour 3.
