Warner Bros’ two-part adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel It (pick up a copy HERE) ended up pulling in a combined total of over $1.17 billion at the global box office, so it was a given that the studio would try to tell more stories set in the world King created with that story. It was only a matter of time. Two and a half years after the release of It: Chapter Two, we now know what the next step is: WarnerMedia is working with the HBO Max streaming service to develop an It prequel series that is currently going by the title Welcome to Derry.

An official synopsis hasn’t been made available, but The Ankler speculates that Welcome to Derry will

likely explore the origin story of Pennywise the Clown as well as the dawn of the 27-year curse that haunts the small Maine town.

It isn’t clear if any of the cast members from the It movies will be involved with the show, The Ankler doesn’t even know if Welcome to Derry has gotten an actual greenlight yet, but a writer’s room has been assembled to brainstorm ideas.

With a page count that goes well past 1000, King’s novel tells the following story:

Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real.

They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made twenty-eight years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that terrifying summer return as they prepare to once again battle the monster lurking in Derry’s sewers.
