Top Gun: Maverick has been one of the biggest films of the year since its premiere, and now it’s just accomplished another major milestone, as it dethroned one of Marvel Studios’ biggest films.

Recently, Maverick has officially outgrossed Avengers: Infinity War to become the sixth highest-grossing film of all time at the domestic box office. The film now sits at $679 million in domestic earnings, and could potentially catapult itself into the fifth slot — Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, which earned $700 million — if it stays in theaters for even longer.

Following the massive success of the sequel film, a third film in the Top Gun series is also potentially being discussed, with Miles Teller recently teasing a potential sequel to the sequel by noting that he had been “having some conversations” with star Tom Cruise.

Top Gun: Maverick is set in a world of drone technology and fifth-generation fighters, and explores the end of the era of dogfighting. Maverick is now a flight instructor, who takes Bradley Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s late partner Nick “Goose” Bradshaw, under his wing.

Joining Cruise are Teller, Jon Hamm, Val Kilmer, Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, Monica Barbaro, Danny Ramirez, Manny Jacinto, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin, Jean Louisa Kelly, Charles Parnell, Ed Harris, and more. Top Gun: Maverick is directed by Joseph Kosinski, who previously worked with Cruise in Oblivion, from a screenplay written by Peter Craig, Justin Marks, and Eric Warren Singer.
