Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly looking to close a deal for a Harry Potter TV series on HBO Max, with each season covering one book.
You might want to get ready to head back to Hogwarts as it appears as though Warner Bros. Discovery is nearing a deal to produce a Harry Potter TV series.
According to Bloomberg, the potential TV series would transform each of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels into a single season, meaning that the entire series could span seven seasons or more. Sources have said that talks between the studio and Rowling “remain in a preliminary state,” so nothing is guaranteed at this stage.
The Harry Potter movies were an enormous success for Warner Bros., and as the Fantastic Beasts franchise hasn’t enjoyed the same reception, it’s understandable why they want to return to Harry, Ron, Hermione, and the rest. If the Harry Potter TV series does move forward, this would obviously mean that we would see new actors taking on the iconic roles made famous by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson. Expanding each novel to a full season would allow the series to include characters and plots which weren’t able to be included in the movies. It would also give Warner Bros. an excuse to explain why they want to reboot the franchise in the first place.
Returning to the world of Harry Potter has been teased on and off over the past two years, with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav emphasizing last year that the studio will have a “real focus on franchises” moving forward. “We haven’t had a Superman movie in 13 years,” Zaslav said. “We haven’t had a Harry Potter movie in 15 years. The DC movies and the Harry Potter movies provided a lot of the profits for Warner Bros. … over the past 25 years.” The executive added that he’d like to see more from the Harry Potter franchise, saying “If we can do something with J.K. [Rowling] on Harry Potter going forward.“
Would you be down for a Harry Potter TV series that adapts each novel into a season?
