Yellowstone prequel, 1932, Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren,

Yellowstone has quickly grown into a massive franchise for Paramount, and the next series is already shaping up to be the biggest yet in pure talent. It was announced today that Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren would star in 1932, the latest Yellowstone prequel series from Taylor Sheridan.

1932 will introduce “a new generation of the Dutton family and will explore the early 20th century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home.” As big as Yellowstone has become, getting Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren to star in the latest prequel is a significant deal. It probably helps that 1932 will be a one-and-done limited series much like the last prequel series, 1883.

The first Yellowstone prequel series starred Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Isabel May and followed “the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land – Montana.” Taylor Sheridan confirmed earlier this year that 1883 wasn’t going to receive a second season. “I created this peek through time to show you this one specific journey,” Sheridan said. “I’m not someone who likes to tie everything up in a bow and explain how everyone lived happily ever after or didn’t. On to the next peek through the window.” That next peek through the Yellowstone window will be 1932, and I can’t wait to see who joins Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in the prequel series.

1932 will stream exclusively on Paramount+ with a release date set to be determined later this year. As for the modern-day side of the series, the fifth season of Yellowstone recently kicked off production.
