It only took thirty-eight years, but Indiana Jones and Short Round are back together again! Appearing at D23 to promote their respective projects, Harrison Ford and Ke Huy Quan shared a touching reunion backstage, with the newly resurgent Everything Everywhere All At Once star sharing the pic via his Instagram, captioning the post “I love you, Indy.”
Ford, who was in a surprisingly emotional mood while promoting his final appearance as Indiana Jones in the upcoming, so-far untitled sequel, told D23 attendees (including our own Alex Maidy) that this was indeed his last time donning the fedora. “This is it. I will not fall down for you again,” he said, choking up as the audience saw the first teaser trailer (see Alex’s breakdown of the unreleased trailer at the bottom of this post).
Ke Huy Quan, who’s generating legit Oscar buzz for his role in the breakout hit Everything Everywhere All At Once, was there promoting his upcoming role in Loki Season 2, with his announcement as a new member of the cast being met with thunderous applause by the audience.
Ke Huy Quan famously played Indy’s sidekick, Short Round, in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, with many still quoting his dialogue (“hold on to your potatoes,” “no time for love, Dr. Jones”) all these years later. As soon as he was done with Temple of Doom, he reunited with director Steven Spielberg to make The Goonies (for the late Richard Donner) before showing up on TV’s Head of the Class and the cult classic Encino Man. He eventually left acting to get involved with stunt work and fight choreography (including work on Jet Li’s The One). His martial arts training served him well when he played Michelle Yeoh’s husband in Everything Everywhere All At Once. People loved seeing him back on the big screen, and he seems to be on the comeback trail. I wonder if it’s too late to get him in Indiana Jones 5? Given the blissful expression on Ford’s face in their pic together, I bet he would be a welcome addition by all involved.
