Who’s in the mood for some mad love? Today, Spotify, in partnership with Warner Bros. and DC, announced the start of production for its all-new audio series Harley Quinn and The Joker: Sound Mind. The series, written by Eli Horowitz (Homecoming), shares a new story from the perspective of one of Gotham City’s most iconic villains. Spotify’s Harley Quinn podcast follows in the footsteps of DC’s other ultra-successful podcast series, Batman Unburied, which was recently renewed for a second season.
Leading the cast as Harleen Quinzel is Emmy-nominated actor Christina Ricci (Yellow Jackets, The Matrix Resurrections, The Addams Family), in an audio series that finally tells Harley’s story from her perspective, instead of the one The Joker has told. When listeners meet Harley, she’s Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a gifted psychologist at Arkham Asylum in Gotham City determined to help the patients her colleagues have written off. But her dad is sick and in need of an expensive life-saving operation, which Harleen can’t afford. When she meets “Patient J,” a unique criminal who seems to have a strange power over everyone but her, Harleen makes a fateful decision: to use her relationship with J to get what she needs, leading both of them down a dangerous path that will change their lives forever.
Starring alongside Ricci in the new audio series is Billy Magnussen (No Time To Die, The Many Saints of Newark) as the Jester of Genocide, The Joker. Also joining the cast as Bruce Wayne is Justin Hartley (This Is Us). The series, developed by Eli Horowitz, will be the second project to debut as a part of Spotify’s multi-year agreement with Warner Bros. and DC following their global sensation, Batman Unburied. The Batman Unburied audio series quickly rose to the top of Spotify’s podcast charts and reached the top in 17 markets. Batman Unburied features one of the most thrilling Batman stories of the past decade, with Black Panther’s Winston Duke in the title role.
Spotify’s new Harley Quinn podcast, Harley Quinn and The Joker: Sound Mind, is written by Eli Horowitz, Matthew Derby, and Rachel Khong.
Hell yes! I am excited about this! Batman Unburied is excellent, and if Spotify’s Harley Quinn podcast receives the same level of care and outstanding production, we’re all in for a treat. Bring it on! Also, the amazing Harley Quinn artwork featured above was created by Stjepan Šejić.
