DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled some of the main slate of the upcoming DC Universe last week, including the planned Paradise Lost series. According to the pair, that series will take cues from other fantasy shows like Game of Thrones.
Speaking to DC following the announcement of DC Universe’s Chapter One of storytelling, titled “Gods and Monsters,” Safran likened the upcoming series — which is set on Themyscira/Paradise Island, the home of the Amazons and birthplace of Wonder Woman — to HBO’s Game of Thrones.
“This is a Game of Thrones-type story about Themyscira/Paradise Island, home of the Amazons and the birthplace of Wonder Woman,” said Safran. “This involves all of the darkness, drama and political intrigue behind this society of only women.”
James Gunn added that the series acts as an origin story of “how this society of women came about,” and will explore their politics, rules, and much more.
“It’s an origin story of how this society of women came about,” said Gunn. “What does it mean? What are their politics like? What are their rules? Who’s in charge? What are the games that they play with each other to get to the top? I think it’s really exciting.”
While not too much is known about the upcoming series, Safran did reveal that the series takes place prior to the events of the birth of Diana (Wonder Woman), so it’s highly unlikely she’ll be making an appearance in the show.
