As it gets closer and closer to the holiday season, James Gunn has continued to tease more of what fans can expect from the upcoming The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, including a brand new soundtrack.

Taking to Twitter to answer a few questions on the project, Gunn revealed that a new soundtrack would be coming to the special, and would also include original music as well. The soundtracks to the Guardians of the Galaxy films have been nearly as popular as the films themselves, so fans are sure to be excited by this news.

It’s unclear whether the soundtrack will continue to feature more of the rock-heavy songs of the first two films, or will go for more holiday-themed selections due to the nature of the special, however.

In another tweet, Gunn also revealed more about what fans can expect from the special. Replying to a fan who asked exactly what this was, Gunn noted that the project was a TV special, and would obviously not be feature-length.

He then said that it will still be part of the canon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and would also contain “some important new elements in the Guardians’ story,” but told another fan that the special takes place in between the events of the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Finally, Gunn also revealed that not every single character from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise will appear in the Holiday Special, telling a fan that a fan-made piece of art was not accurate as to who would appear in the special. Current speculation is that Gamora won’t appear.

The space-traveling team was last seen in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame where they were joined by Chris Hemsworth’s Thor during the final moments of the film. Because of this, some of the Guardians of the Galaxy stars including Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, and Karen Gillan are set to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder.
